How this result is produced

The compressor tests a controlled range of quality settings and reduces dimensions only when quality changes are not enough. It measures the finished file against the selected exact, maximum, or range rule before enabling the download.

Practical example

For a portal asking for a 250 KB photo, choose exact mode and 250 KB. A passing result may be close to that target rather than byte-identical because browser encoders work in quality steps.

Limits and troubleshooting

• Exact mode uses a ±2% tolerance because browser encoders expose quality steps, not exact byte control.
• Metadata is removed during canvas re-encoding. Animated images are not supported.
• Very small targets can require dimension reduction; impossible targets return an explanation instead of an oversized file.

If no version passes, the target may be too small for the image and chosen format. Try a maximum or range rule, reduce the dimensions, or export a fresh JPG, PNG, or WebP if the source cannot be decoded.
